Youth held with brown sugar in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Dec 10: Golmuri police tightened their grip on the local drug trade on after arresting a 28-year-old youth from Namda Basti with brown sugar.

The accused, Shubham Singh, was caught during a targeted raid following a tip-off about the sale of narcotics in the area.

Police recovered 21 small packets of brown sugar weighing around 3 grams, Rs 500 in cash and a mobile phone from his possession.

According to City DSP Sunil Kumar Choudhary, the raid was conducted at House No. 45 in Namda Basti on December 9 after intelligence inputs confirmed ongoing drug peddling.

As the police team entered the premises, Shubham attempted to escape, but officers stationed outside quickly detained him.

Investigations suggest that the accused had been supplying brown sugar to local addicts in small packets for the past several months.

Police are now probing the source of the contraband and looking into the possibility of a bigger network operating behind him.

A case under the NDPS Act has been filed, and the accused is being sent to judicial custody.

Police officials said that anti-narcotics operations will continue across the Golmuri area to curb the rising drug menace.
