Manoharpur: A youth died on Wednesday morning after falling from a moving train near platform number 2 of the Manoharpur railway station. Following the incident, a Government Railway Police (GRP) team from Manoharpur rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.
The victim was traveling on the Shalimar-Kurla Express when the mishap occurred. Police suspect that he was sitting near the train door when he dozed off, lost his balance, and fell onto the tracks, dying instantly.
The GRP recovered a mobile phone, headphones, a charger, and some cash from the spot. Officers are currently using the recovered mobile phone to identify the deceased and notify his family members.
The incident delayed the Rourkela-Tata-Badampahar passenger train for about half an hour. Railway and police officials later restored normal train operations. Police have taken custody of the body to begin the autopsy and other legal formalities.
