Jamshedpur, May 17: On Wednesday morning, the residents of Ulda village in Galudih police station area were met with a gruesome sight when a severed head was discovered in front of Ashish Singh’s house. The incident revealed the tragic suicide of 24-year-old Ranjan Laha, the son of Jeevan Chandra Laha from Tiruldih police station area who had chosen to end his life by placing himself in the path of a train on the Ulda railway track on Tuesday night.

Upon discovering the severed head, Ashish Singh immediately informed the Ulda village head, Lalmohan Singh, and reported the incident to the local Galudih police station. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene to witness the shocking discovery. The in-charge of Galudih police station, Sukhsagar Singh Chaudhary, promptly arrived at the location. The police had received a late-night report of the train-related incident and later found that a dog had carried the severed head about one kilometer away from the original spot.
Further investigation led the police to pole number 225/3, where they observed the lifeless body of the deceased. Ranjan Laha was found wearing a colored ganji (vest), jeans, and shoes. It appeared that he had carefully removed the railway ballast before lying down with his head on the tracks resulting in his head being severed from his body upon impact. The rest of his body lay at the scene, accompanied by a bag containing his educational documents and a suicide note.
The suicide note revealed Ranjan Laha’s deep love for his family and cited unemployment as a contributing factor to his decision. It expressed his voluntary choice to end his own life. The deceased had also been an NCC cadet and had graduated from Karim City College in Jamshedpur. Among the items found in the bag were his Aadhaar card, bank passbook, driving license, charger, spectacles, two pairs of clothes, mobile phone and wallet. The police promptly informed the relevant authorities and the body along with the belongings was transported to the subdivision hospital for postmortem examination. Following the completion of the postmortem, the body was handed over to the deceased’s father, Jeevan Laha. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning.
