Library Development Committee of Jharkhand Assembly to enhance library services and address development needs

Jamshedpur, May 17: The Library Development Committee of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, headed by co-MLA Arpana Sen Gupta, convened a meeting to evaluate the state of libraries in public libraries and government schools throughout the district. Committee member cum MLA Mangal Kalindi also participated in the meeting. The committee sought information about the presence of libraries, availability of books, basic facilities and the condition of the library buildings. Based on their findings, they provided necessary guidance to the responsible officials.

During the meeting, the committee chairman recommended that all departmental officers consider establishing libraries within their respective offices. This initiative would enable them to engage with books and continue learning new techniques and knowledge during their spare time. The Planning Officer informed the committee about the existence of two libraries already operating within the premises of the Planning Office in Ghatshila and Golmuri.

Furthermore, the committee reviewed the implementation of development schemes in the district over the past three years and issued instructions to the officials as required. Kalindi stressed the significance of ensuring that the benefits of government schemes reach the most marginalized individuals in society. He urged the officials to ensure that villagers encounter no obstacles when accessing services and facilities.

With regards to development initiatives, Kalindi specifically highlighted the importance of focusing on the development of Dimna Lake and Hathikheda temple from a tourism perspective. He directed the pollution control board officer to conduct a survey in the Sarjamda area to assess pollution levels. Additionally, he emphasized the necessity of establishing ultrasound centers for pregnant women in the Bodam and Patmada areas. Kalindi even expressed his willingness to provide an ultrasound machine and instructed officials to ensure that technicians and necessary equipment are available to the civil surgeon. He emphasized that women in those areas currently have to travel to Jamshedpur for ultrasound examinations and establishing centers within their own blocks would alleviate the burden of travel during pregnancy. The meeting was attended by various officials, including the District Forest Officer (DFO), Civil Surgeon, Director of the National Education Policy (NEP), District Supply Officer, Sub-divisional Officer (SOR), Executive Officer of Mango Municipal Corporation, District Public Relation Officer, District Superintendent of Education and executive engineers from various departments. The discussions held during the meeting aimed to enhance the quality of library services, ensure effective implementation of development schemes, and address the specific needs of the community.
