Jamshedpur, Dec 23: Following instruction of the Central government, Good Governance Week is being celebrated in the district from 19-25 December.

A district level workshop on good governance was organized in the Collectorate Auditorium under the ‘Administration towards Village’ campaign.

Former commissioner Kolhan Mohan Lal Rai and XLRI faculty Kanak Raj spoke at the workshop.

Mohan Lal Rai said that as a public servant, one has to give better service by staying within the ambit of the law, people should also feel that justice is being done by their actions.

Sharing experiences of his service, he said government schemes should reach every section of the society. Special attention needs to be given to the weaker sections, only then there is meaning of good governance. There should be no partiality in justice, justice should always be transparent.

Professor Kanak Raj gave his views on how to provide high quality service, technology support and speedy justice in the field of public service. He said that the people should also feel that the government is thinking for them, and this would be reflected only by the working style of the officials and said with the help of technology the work which used to take days and months to complete can now be expedited.

Stressing on the delivery mechanism, ADM Law and Order N. K Lal said that quick disposal of complaints of the general public instills confidence in public servants. He said that all the office bearers of district and block level should have only one aim and that is  how to play their part in good governance.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaideep Tigga said that keeping any complaint pending for more than three months means that one is not discharging duties properly. Apart from their routine work, the officials should pay special attention to public complaints by taking out one hour every day.

The District Supply Officer said that 18 lakh people of the district are connected directly or indirectly with the supply office, he kept his views on the role of his office work in the field of public service. He emphasized on what and how much better can be done in the interest of the people by doing the work in the spirit of pleasure and considering the office work as their responsibility.

The District Transport Officer Dinesh Ranjan said that leaving the traditional methods, officials have to keep pace with the new world where technology is also included. He said that there are many systems like Lokpal, RTI which always test the role and functions of public servants on the basis of justice. He emphasized on RAT (Responsibility, Accountability, Transparency) in the role of a public servant.

In the workshop, special emphasis was given on the fact that the attitude of a public servant should be first, administrator later. Transparent and unbiased work ethic, there should be no attitude of delaying or deviating from works of public interest. There will be no room for doubts or complaints if the files are processed promptly with factual comments.
