Lightning strike claims young woman’s life near Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 11: A 23-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by lightning in Potka block of East Singhbhum district on Thursday, highlighting the dangers posed by sudden thunderstorms during the monsoon season.
The tragic incident occurred in Hensalbil village, where the victim, identified as Muskan Hansda, was reportedly standing outside her house when the weather suddenly deteriorated.
According to local residents, dark clouds gathered over the area and lightning activity intensified as a thunderstorm swept through the village. During the downpour, a bolt of lightning struck Muskan, leaving her critically injured and causing panic among family members and nearby villagers.
She was immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical treatment. However, despite efforts to save her, doctors declared her dead on arrival. The untimely death has left her family and the entire village in deep shock and mourning.
Following the incident, information was conveyed to Potka police and the local Circle Office. Villagers have urged the district administration to provide adequate compensation and support to the bereaved family, while also calling for greater public awareness regarding safety measures during thunderstorms and lightning-related weather events.
