  1. When will XAT 2026 be held and how can aspirants register?

XAT 2026 will be conducted on January 4, 2026. Registration is done online through the official website (xatonline.in) and will close on December 5, 2025. Aspirants must create an account, fill in their details carefully, upload the required documents, and pay the registration fee to confirm their application.

  1. What are the eligibility criteria to apply for XAT 2026?

andidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree for at least three years from a recognised university are eligible. Students who are in their final year of graduation can also apply; they must complete their degree by 12 June 2026. There is no age limit to appear for XAT.

  1. Which courses at XLRI can be pursued through XAT?

XAT scores are used for admission to XLRI’s flagship programs: PGDM-BM (Business Management), PGDM-HRM (Human Resource Management), PGDM-GM (General Management), and PGDM-LSCM (Logistics and Supply Chain Management, offered in collaboration with Rutgers Business School, USA).

  1. What is the exam pattern, and have there been any changes this year?

The exam is computer-based and divided into two parts. The first part is of 170 minutes and has three sections: Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, Decision Making, and Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation. The second part is 10 minutes long and includes General Awareness questions. There is no essay writing in XAT 2026, and no significant changes have been announced, so the pattern remains the same as last year.

  1. What types of questions are asked in XAT, are they similar to CAT?

Some sections, such as Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, are similar to CAT because they test problem-solving and comprehension. However, XAT is known for its unique Decision-Making section, which presents business situations, ethical dilemmas, and case-based problems. XAT focuses on testing analytical thinking, and most questions are application-based, requiring aspirants to apply concepts thoughtfully rather than recall them.

  1. How should local aspirants from Jamshedpur or Jharkhand start preparing for XAT?

Start by building a strong foundation in Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, and Decision Making. Practice is essential, and aspirants can download previous years’ XAT question papers from the official website to understand the pattern and level of difficulty. The XAT team also organizes webinars with the XAT Convener and past toppers to help aspirants learn how to approach the exam and manage time effectively. Reading newspapers and business magazines regularly will also help with General Awareness.

  1. What is the level of difficulty compared to other MBA entrance exams?

XAT is often described as a smart test for future leaders. It is designed to test analytical and critical thinking skills rather than to make the paper unnecessarily difficult. The focus is on clarity and fairness so that candidates from all academic backgrounds can perform to their potential. Over the years, the XAT team has worked hard to reduce any ambiguity in the questions. In fact, XAT now publishes a detailed “XAT Overview” that clearly mentions the topics covered under each section, helping aspirants prepare with confidence.

  1. Can students from non-engineering backgrounds or those with work experience also apply?

Yes, XAT is open to students from all disciplines — commerce, arts, science, and engineering — and candidates with or without work experience. XLRI actively encourages diversity in its classrooms, so aspirants from different educational and professional backgrounds are welcome.

  1. What advice would you give to first-time test takers appearing for XAT 2026?

Begin preparation early, focus on understanding concepts, and practice regularly with mock tests under timed conditions. Please pay special attention to the Decision-Making section, which requires practice to build the right judgment skills. Keep up with current affairs for the General Awareness section. On exam day, manage time wisely, stay calm, and approach the paper with a clear, focused mind.
