With 300 stalls, Swadeshi Mela begins at Gopal Maidan

Jamshedpur, March 8: More than 300 stalls related to apparels, food products, madhubani paintings, handmade jewellery, yoga stall, ceramic artefacts, tussar silk materials, Ayurvedic medicines and others have set up their counters at Swadeshi Mela organized by Centre for Bharatiya Marketing Development (CBMD) at Gopal Maidan.

The fair was inaugurated by Saryu Roy, Minister of civil supply, Jharkhand inaugurated the fair on Sunday, March 8. It will continue till March 15. A pavilion of medicinal plants, green vegetables, different companies and auto-manufacturing enterprises has also been put up at the fair.

The first day of the fair being Sunday saw large crowd of people thronging the venue and the organizers hope the same tradition continues over the next seven days. The fair is being organized every year to promote country-made goods. It evokes huge response among the residents.

“Last year, thousands of people visited the fair and we believe the numbers of visitors will be more this year,” said Manoj Kumar Singh, the mela convener. Carpets from Kashmir to intricate zari work of Rajasthan and decorative pieces from Gujarat, the mela has a lot to offer by artists who have gathered from various states.

Over artisans from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Chhatisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh will display their products, government agencies such as District Rural Development Authority and NABARD will also put up stalls.

Panel discussions on the current industries will be an everyday feature along with folk songs and dances to woo people.
