Stage set for Tata Workers Union election today

Jamshedpur, March 8: Stage is set for the election of country’s biggest Union Tata Workers Union slated to be held on March 9 at Tata Steel company premises.

The poll to be held under the supervision of District Administration stares at full transparency. The polling officers were imparted two day training at Michael John Auditorium in Bistupur.

On the last of the training ADC Sunil Kumar who is also the returning officer of TWU election gave full fledged training and also the election materials were given to the polling officers on Sunday, March 8.

Voting starts at 8 am and will continue till 1 pm were several booths have been prepared inside the company premises. It may be mentioned here that votes would be cast from 8 am to 1 pm on March 9. Tentatively the results would be announced late in the evening on the same day.

Meanwhile the Raghunath Pandey, Bhagwan Singh and PN Singh factions are claiming victory in the election. Administration till the last hour made preparation to conduct free and fair polls. Former President of the Union PN Singh has retired but is still trying his luck to win back the post.

Another former President Raghunath Pandey is the fitting for the Presidential post. Supporters of both the faction tried their best to convince the voters through the campaign which ended on March 7.

The tenure of Union is of 2 years and from the last two terms District Administration has been assigned the duty by high court to hold polls as TWU doesn’t have its own constitution.

High Court in February ordered the administration to conduct the polls. To take stock of the preparations of the election deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, SSP AV Homekar, SDO Prem Ranjan and ADC Sunil Kumar visited Tata Steel company premises on Saturday, March 7.

The officials inspected the surrounds and the booths where polls would be held and took stock of the preparations.The polls will be held at 152 booths in 41 locations which will elect 214 committee members on March 9.

Of the 41 locations 36 have been set up inside the premises while remaining 5 locations have been set-up at TMH, Tube Division, Jusco premises, CRM Bara and Corporate House.
