Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity across several regions of the state over the next four days.
As per the IMD forecast, the State is likely to see heavy rain in the north-eastern and adjoining central parts of the state. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–40 km/h are expected at isolated places throughout Jharkhand.
Similar weather conditions are predicted for July 29, with a specific alert for heavy rainfall in the north-eastern districts. The wet spell is expected to continue through July 30 and 31, marked by thunderstorms and lightning, especially in isolated locations.
Meteorologists attribute the weather activity to a well-marked low-pressure area that currently lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining regions. This system is accompanied by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilting south-westward with height. The system is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area within the next 12 hours as it moves westward.
Additionally, a trough line from the cyclonic circulation extends to northeast Bangladesh, passing through northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Gangetic West Bengal, between 0.9 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. The monsoon trough at mean sea level also runs from Bikaner, Kota, the low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh, Daltonganj, Digha and then southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
In the past 24 hours, the monsoon remained active across Jharkhand. Most areas received light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, while isolated locations witnessed heavy downpours. The highest recorded rainfall was 74.4 mm in Jhinkpani, West Singhbhum district.
The IMD has advised residents and local administrations to remain alert, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as the state experiences another active phase of the southwest monsoon.
