Signature campaign in demand for Padma Shri to APR Nair

Jamshedpur, July 28: A signature campaign was launched in the Mango area on Monday, demanding the posthumous conferral of the Padma Shri award to late educationist APR Nair, who made significant contributions to the field of education in Jamshedpur.

Social worker Dr Afroz Shakeel announced the initiative during a press conference, joined by Shahid Akhtar, Md Tahir Hussain, and others. Dr Shakeel stated that society remains indebted to APR Nair for his visionary work in building an inclusive educational framework, particularly benefiting students from underprivileged backgrounds. “Thousands of students educated under his system are now contributing to the nation in various fields,” he added.
The campaign aims to gather wide public support, following which a memorandum will be submitted to the Governor next week, urging the government to honor Nair with the Padma Shri posthumously. A detailed report highlighting Nair’s life, legacy, and achievements is also being prepared as part of the effort.
Md Tahir Hussain reiterated that APR Nair’s educational model uplifted many from the weaker sections of society. Under Dr Shakeel’s leadership, the Aman Welfare Society continues to carry forward Nair’s legacy through initiatives like the APR Nair Blood Donation Camp, scholarships, and awards for teachers and students.
