Jamshedpur: The second Jharkhand Yogasana Sports Championship, organized by the World Fitness Federation of Yogasana Sports India (Bharat), began on Friday at Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma. The two-day event was inaugurated by Yoga Guru Anshu Sarkar, who is also the President of WFF Yogasana Sports India and Director of Sarkar Yoga Academy.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Sharat Chandran, Director of KPS Kadma, and special guests Jitendra Kumar, Automation Chief at MRC, Saudi Arabia, and BJP leader Dinesh Kumar, former Metropolitan President. About 150 participants from various districts of Jharkhand, ranging in age from 5 to over 60 years, took part in the competition. The event saw participation from 12 boys’ and 12 girls’ groups along with one star category.
Six winners from each group were awarded trophies, medals, and certificates. Among the highlights, 75-year-old Jayshree Chakraborty from Sonari and 23-year-old Pankaj Kumar Mahato, a student of Sarla Birla University in Ranchi, were crowned “Champion of Champions.”
Chief Guest Sharat Chandran, in his address, said, “The KPS family is now proudly part of the Yoga family. Yoga not only strengthens the body but also fortifies the heart, mind, and willpower. Anshu Sarkar has played a significant role in promoting health through yoga to thousands.”
Other dignitaries who addressed the gathering included Jitendra Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, and M Rajesh Kumar.
In the evening session, a prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy and KPS Principal Sharmila Mukherjee. Students of Sarkar Yoga Academy welcomed the guests. Rai emphasized yoga’s deep roots in Indian civilization and culture, calling it a form of spiritual discipline that ensures well-being.
The ceremony also featured a welcome song by Mango resident Divya Ratna and a moving yoga demonstration by specially-abled children.
