Weather fluctuates in Jamshedpur, Yellow alert issued for thunderstorms

Jamshedpur: The weather in Jamshedpur changed sharply on Sunday after two days of heavy rain across the Kolhan region. As the clouds cleared, bright sunshine returned, leading to a sudden rise of about 4 degrees Celsius in the minimum temperature, which reached 24.4°C. The maximum temperature also climbed to around 37°C, making the afternoon hot and uncomfortable. Humidity stood at 34 percent, adding to the muggy conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the changing weather is part of pre-monsoon activity. While such conditions may bring temporary relief through rain, they also increase the risk of lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms. Wind speeds are expected to range between 30 and 40 kmph in several parts of Jharkhand, prompting authorities to urge residents and farmers to remain cautious.

The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for March 31 and April 1, warning of possible rain accompanied by strong winds in Jamshedpur and nearby areas. People have been advised to stay alert, especially during evening hours when sudden storms are more likely. The administration has cautioned against taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning and has urged people to remain indoors in safe locations.

The sudden fluctuations in weather are also affecting public health. Hospitals and clinics in the city are reporting an increase in cases of allergies, colds, coughs, and respiratory problems. Doctors say frequent temperature changes can worsen conditions for people with chronic illnesses and advise taking preventive measures.

Residents are being encouraged to protect themselves from dust and cold winds, seek medical advice if they experience allergy symptoms, and avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during adverse weather. Experts believe that such unstable weather will continue for a few more days before conditions gradually return to normal after the transitional phase.
