73rd AGM and 58th Engineers’ Day celebration held, three distinguished engineers recognised
Tata Steel VP Probal Ghosh, NIT professor honoured as distinguished engineers
Jamshedpur, October 25: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jamshedpur Local Centre (IEI), a professional body of engineers established in 1952, conducted its 73rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, at the United Club, Jamshedpur. The meeting witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of corporate members and dignitaries from various engineering disciplines.
The meeting began with the presentation of the Annual Report for the 2024–25 session by Er. T. Thirumurugan, Honorary Secretary of the Jamshedpur Local Centre. The report highlighted the key achievements, activities, and initiatives undertaken during the year and was unanimously adopted by the members present.
Following the presentation, Er. Satish Kumar Tiwary, Chairman of IEI, Jamshedpur announced the new office bearers for the upcoming session. Er. Vinit Kumar Shah from Tata Steel was formally inducted as the new Chairman, and Dr. Seeram Madhuri from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur, took over as the new Honorary Secretary. Both were warmly welcomed by the members of the house.

In his concluding remarks, Er. Tiwary expressed his gratitude to all members for their continued support and commitment to the Institution’s mission of advancing engineering excellence.
The AGM was followed by the celebration of the 58th Engineers’ Day, held in honour of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most distinguished engineers. This year marks the 164th birth anniversary of Sir Visvesvaraya, whose contributions to engineering and nation-building continue to inspire generations.

The celebration began with the formal welcome of the Chief Guest, Er. Suresh Kumar, Ex-Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel Ltd. In his welcome address, Er. Satish Kumar Tiwary, Chairman of IEI-JLC, spoke about the significance of Engineers’ Day and emphasized the role of engineers in shaping a sustainable and progressive society.
Presentation of Engineers’ Day Awards
Three distinguished engineers were recognized during the ceremony for their outstanding contributions to the field of engineering and to the Institution of Engineers, Jamshedpur Local Centre.
- Distinguished Engineer Award – Er. Probal Ghosh
A Mechanical Engineer from IIEST, Shibpur, Er. Probal Ghosh joined Tata Steel in 1990 as a Graduate Trainee and currently heads One Shared Services, overseeing Asset Management, Utilities Infrastructure, and Energy Management across Tata Steel’s integrated steelworks. A former Chairman of IEI-JLC (2021–2023), Er. Ghosh was honoured for his exemplary professional achievements and leadership. - Distinguished Engineer Award – Er. Anurag Saxena
An Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Roorkee (1987 batch) and an MBA with a diploma in Operations Research, Er. Anurag Saxena serves as the Chief of Electrical Maintenance at Tata Steel’s 10 MTPA Jamshedpur plant. He was recognized for his exceptional technical contributions and leadership as Chairman of IEI-JLC during FY 2018–22. - Lady Engineer Award – Dr. (Mrs.) Dulari Hansdah
Currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Jamshedpur, Dr. Dulari Hansdah has over a decade of academic experience in thermal and energy engineering. She has actively contributed as an Executive Committee Member of IEI-JLC and was honoured with the Lady Engineer Award for her dedication to engineering education and institutional development.

In his inspiring address, Chief Guest Er. Suresh Kumar, Ex– Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel Ltd highlighted that engineering is about envisioning a future where technology unlocks endless possibilities. He emphasized that engineers play a crucial role in driving innovation, creating intelligent systems, and building sustainable infrastructure. Stressing on the importance of sustainability, he remarked, “Engineers must strive to harmonize progress with preservation, ensuring that future generations inherit a planet rich in resources and balanced ecosystems.”
At the end of his address, Er. Vinit Kumar Shah, Chairman, IEI, presented a memento to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation.
