Gamharia, May 10: Adivasi’s and local of Gamharia block protested against the proposed international airport at Gamharia in Seraikela-Kharswan district on Tuesday.
The villagers vowed to fight together against the state governments motive to set up industries and build airport on the adivasi’s land.
The protestors are adamant not to part with their land for the airport project. A villager said that they are opposed to the airport project at their villages as it will jeopardise the life of so many people.
The airport needs 528 acre 90 per cent being forestland but the bone of contention is a 50-acre stretch under riyati or private land category, across Shibpur, Mohanpur, Machilikudur, Jagannathpur, Murgaguttu and Salempathar villages.
The villagers argued that a section of fertile land, which is likely to be acquired for the airport, will affect families dependent on it for a livelihood.
The Rs 400-crore Tata Steel international airport in Gamharia block is stuck over land acquisition tangle since the project received approval from directorate general of civil aviation, government of India, in February 2012.
