District Election Officer Inspects EVM Warehouse, Security

Jamshedpur: The District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Karn Satyarthi, on Tuesday carried out a detailed inspection of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) warehouse located at Kitadih in Jamshedpur Sadar block.

The visit was aimed at ensuring the safety, transparency, and proper maintenance of election-related equipment.

Close Review of EVM and VVPAT Storage

During the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner examined the storage arrangements of:

  • Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)
  • Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines

He reviewed the overall security system to ensure compliance with Election Commission norms.

Key Areas Reviewed:

  • CCTV surveillance and camera functionality
  • Entry and exit controls
  • Maintenance of inspection registers
  • Logbook updates
  • Warehouse management protocols

CCTV Must Remain Functional 24×7

Emphasising strict adherence to security standards, Satyarthi directed officials to maintain constant vigilance.

He instructed that:

  • All CCTV cameras must remain operational at all times
  • Surveillance footage should be regularly monitored
  • Backups of recordings must be taken on time
  • Unauthorized entry into the warehouse is strictly prohibited

He made it clear that no laxity or negligence would be tolerated in securing election equipment.

Transparency and Accountability Stressed

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of maintaining transparency in documentation and daily operations.

Officials were directed to:

  • Update the daily inspection register regularly
  • Maintain accurate and timely logbook entries
  • Conduct periodic security audits
  • Strengthen monitoring and reporting mechanisms

He also called for a robust, high-level monitoring system to ensure accountability throughout the process.

Political Party Representatives Present

Representatives of various political parties were present during the inspection, reinforcing transparency and trust in the electoral process.

The inspection highlights the district administration’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections in East Singhbhum.
