Ranchi: In a significant breakthrough, Vijay Mahato, the prime accused in the murder of seven people, has been arrested after evading authorities for 18 years. The Ranchi Police acted on confidential information indicating Mahato’s presence in Punjab. A dedicated police team was dispatched to Punjab, collaborating with local authorities to apprehend the fugitive on January 1.
The murder case, dating back to 2005, resulted in the filing of an FIR against 19 individuals at Tupudana Police Station. Over the years, law enforcement successfully detained 18 of the accused, including Bhondu, Binod Mahato, Masukoka Mahato, Kadru Mahato, Jalesh Mahato, Dhuran Mahato, Bhakru Mahato, Etwa Lohra, Chandru Mahato, Anand Mahato, Hari Mahato, Jhariya Mahato, Dilu Mahato, Ghoghai Mahato, Kusum Ghasi, Suresh Mahato, Aasman Mahato, and Bahlu Mahato, who were subsequently incarcerated.
Vijay Mahato, a barber by profession, had managed to elude capture since 2005 until his recent arrest in Punjab. The Ranchi Police, in collaboration with their counterparts in Punjab, are expected to bring Mahato back to Ranchi, with his arrival anticipated on Wednesday. The arrest marks a crucial development in the long-pending case, providing closure to the victims’ families and underscoring the persistence of law enforcement efforts.
