Unusual sequence in Jharkhand: Board Exams precede Pre-Board Exams; Confusion persists

Ranchi: In a departure from the norm observed across the country, Jharkhand is set to conduct Matric and Intermediate board exams before the pre-board examinations. Typically, pre-board exams precede the crucial board exams, but the proposed schedule for the year 2024 in Jharkhand flips this sequence, raising uncertainties.
Matriculation and Intermediate exams in the state are overseen by the Jharkhand Academic Council, while the pre-board exam dates have been released by JCERT. The proposed board exams are scheduled to commence on February 6, running until February 26. However, pre-board exams are slated for February 19 to 23.
This unique arrangement has led to doubts regarding the feasibility of conducting pre-board exams simultaneously with ongoing board exams. JCERT had earlier issued guidelines to districts, including the schedule for weekly test exams and pre-board exams up to class 12, slated for July 24.
While JCERT instructs pre-board exams from February 19 to 23, the JAC’s program extends the Matric and Inter exams until February 26. The misalignment in dates raises questions about the practicality of conducting pre-board exams during the board examination period. As students await clarity, concerns are growing about attendance, particularly if pre-board exams coincide with the ongoing board exams.
