Union Minister Arjun Munda visits Purulia to inquire death of local youth

Jamshedpur, March 6: Following the death of village youth, Union Minister Arjun Munda visited Chodida village this evening and met the mother and brothers of Shikari Singh Munda, who was killed by police beating and inquired about the whole incident. The Excise Department first took the youth into custody and later he was thrashed by the police which led to his death.

The villagers said that the deceased had nothing to do with the liquor business and was thrashed by the police in vain in the name of taking information from him. Padma Shri awardee Gambhir Singh Munda hails from the same village. The deceased was from his locality.

Munda said that the local public representatives and the relatives of the deceased have written a letter to the commission in this matter. “I also want that the matter should be investigated and the guilty excise officials should be suspended before the decision of the case in the court,” he said.

Munda was accompanied by BJP MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahto, Habibpur Bidhayak (Malda) Joyal Murmu and other local public representatives. It is worth mentioning that the deceased hunter Munda was arrested by the Excise Department on the basis of suspicion on February 16. During the court appearance, the hunter had told the court about his ill health and inhuman treatment. He was later admitted to the hospital, where he died on 20 February.
