Jamshedpur: Two separate murders reported from different parts of Jamshedpur on Wednesday have sent shockwaves across the city. Police investigations indicate that suspicion and strained family relationships were at the heart of both crimes. While a convoy driver was allegedly beaten to death in the Parsudih police station area, a woman lost her life after being attacked by her husband in the MGM police station area. Police have arrested both accused persons and launched detailed investigations.
Husband Arrested for Killing Wife in MGM Area
A 38-year-old woman, Gita Mandal, was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic dispute in the MGM area.
Preliminary investigations suggest that frequent arguments took place between the couple due to the husband’s suspicions regarding his wife’s character. On Tuesday, a heated altercation reportedly broke out between them, during which accused Bapi Mandal allegedly attacked his wife with a heavy mortar used in the kitchen.
The victim sustained severe head injuries in the assault.
Victim Declared Dead at Hospital
Family members immediately rushed Gita Mandal to a hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
During the investigation, police also learned that both Bapi Mandal and Gita Mandal had entered into second marriages. Following the incident, the accused was taken into custody for further questioning.
Convoy Driver Beaten to Death in Parsudih
Mohan Soren, a convoy driver originally from Odisha, was allegedly murdered following a dispute linked to suspicions of an illicit relationship. The incident occurred in Karandih Line Tola under Parsudih police station limits.
According to police sources, accused Raju Murmu had long suspected that Mohan Soren was involved with his wife. Tensions between the two had reportedly persisted for some time. Late on Tuesday night, the dispute escalated violently when the accused allegedly assaulted Mohan with a cooking vessel and sticks, inflicting severe injuries.
Mohan was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Wife Rejects Allegations of Improper Relationship
During police questioning, the accused’s wife reportedly stated that the allegations were baseless. She told investigators that her husband had assaulted her on Tuesday night, prompting her to leave the house with her two children and seek refuge at a neighbour’s residence.
Upon returning the following morning, she learned about Mohan’s death. The woman maintained that Mohan treated her like a relative and addressed her as “Mami,” adding that there was no inappropriate relationship between them.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and are continuing their investigation into the case.
