CII organises 4th Tribal Development Meet
Jamshedpur, June 28: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has said that the tribal population in the State must encourage them to become entrepreneurs. Addressing the 4th Tribal Development Meet organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) noted: “Our Government has given a special focus to the upliftment of Tribal Society of Jharkhand. Out of the total tribal population of Jharkhand only 2.5% are engaged in businesses, there is a need to change the mindset of Tribal population to encourage them to become an entrepreneur”.

According to Soren, since the majority are into agriculture business, we need to create a market to help them, eliminate middle men to earn more profits and also ask banks to come up with funding policies and schemes as the tribal community is very low in capital and investments. He also said that Government of Jharkhand is taking special initiatives towards overall growth and development of the tribal community such as Single Window System for ease of doing business, special focus on agri farming, cage fish farming, promotion of tourism and development of tourists spots, and also trying to attract manufacturing companies (especially of sports equipment as Jharkhand is endowed with talented sports personalities) to set up their industry in the state especially to generate employment opportunities. .
Addressing the gathering, Chanakya Chaudhary, chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council and vice president (corporate services), Tata Steel Limited said that CII and the industry of Jharkhand is committed to the development of the tribal society. “We shall specifically focus on the tribal youth with reference to education, employment, employability and entrepreneurship,” he noted.
Sanjay Sabherwal, immediate past chairman, CII Jharkhand State Council and managing director, Metaldyne Industries Ltd during his address said that the tribal’s are facing several serious problems. The major among these is their poor economic condition. As they have no regular source of earning a living, most of the tribal’s lead a life of poverty and destitution a majority of them live below the poverty line. They do not have adequate finance to start their own small ventures. While development processes are making inroads in terms of localization of industries, mining and quarrying, construction activities, besides others, its impact on the upliftment of tribal life is much to be known. Further he stated “Tribal Development would definitely take place if there is a focus on Agri and Tourism Industry.”
The Tribal Development Meet deliberated on challenges and opportunities for the economic development of the tribal society, Tribal Workforce – Employment and Entrepreneurship – Schemes and Policies; and Showcasing Success Stories. Over 200 delegates participated in this important forum.
