Transgenders take out Pride March in Jamshedpur, Banna Gupta participates

Jamshedpur, April 30:  Jharkhand Health and Disaster Management Minister Banna Gupta participated in the Pride March organized by eunuchs (third genders) near Sakchi Basant Central.

The members of the third gender narrated their problems including housing to Banna Gupta who, after giving a patient and sympathetic hearing assured them of holding talks with the Chief Minister about their problem.

He also told them that he would strive to find a solution to their problems through Community Centres in his West Jamshedpur assembly constituency. He said, “We all need to come forward to ensure for them (eunuchs) allround development and connect them to the social mainstream.”

Health Minister Banna Gupta referring to the employment avenue for members of the third gender said, “Today jobs for third genders are being generated by government and private sectors. Tata Steel has significantly provided jobs to the third gender members.”

Striking an emotional note, the minister observed, “They may have physical shortcomings but share the same sentiments, emotions as all of us do.

They may have their shortcomings but are endowed with mental strength, determination and many of them are establishing themselves in various employment fields determination and courage.”

He said, “Under Articles 14, 16 and 21 of the Indian Constitution, the Supreme Court has held that transgenders are citizens of the country and have equal rights to education, employment and social acceptance. The eunuch community is proud of Shabnam Mausi who is the first MLA from that community in India.”

Banna Gupta, while giving information on successful transgenders stated that Madhu Kinnar of Chhattisgarh won the election of Mayor, Padmini Prakash of Coimbatore created history by becoming the first transgender news anchor of the country and Manvi Bandyopadhyay had served as the Principal at a College in Kalyani of West Bengal.
