Jamshedpur, Feb 3: Acting on a call given by the Joint Platform of Trade Unions, Jharkhand, a protest demonstration was held on Tuesday in front of the Tata Power gate. Office-bearers of various trade unions along with a large number of workers participated in the sit-in to highlight labour-related issues and draw the attention of the government and management.
Addressing the gathering, trade union leader and AITUC Jharkhand State President Ambuj Kumar Thakur alleged that workers are facing severe exploitation in the current scenario. He claimed that in several establishments, workers are neither paid proper wages on time nor provided with payment slips. Thakur further alleged that in many cases, workers are removed from service merely for demanding their payment slips, calling the practice illegal and unjust.
He stated that to protect workers’ rights and press for the fulfilment of these demands, all trade unions across Jharkhand will jointly observe a statewide strike on February 12. Through this strike, workers aim to send a clear message to the government regarding their legitimate demands.
Speakers at the protest warned that if workers’ issues are not resolved promptly, the agitation would be intensified in the coming days. Although the demonstration remained peaceful, there was visible anger and resentment among workers over continued violations of their rights.
