Jamshedpur, March 11 :Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected to affect parts of Jharkhand over the coming days, the India Meteorological Department said in its latest weather outlook.
According to the forecast, eastern and adjoining central parts of the state may experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph on Wednesday.
Similar conditions are likely at isolated places in the north-eastern region on March 12. No significant weather activity has been predicted for March 13.
Thunderstorm activity is expected to resume on March 15, with lightning and gusty winds likely at isolated places across the state except the north-western region.
On March 16, such weather conditions may occur at a few places across Jharkhand, while north-western areas could witness similar activity on March 17.
Meteorologists attributed the changing weather to a trough extending from Bihar to north Chhattisgarh across Jharkhand at about 0.9 km above mean sea level. Another trough runs from west Assam to Gangetic West Bengal across Bangladesh at around 1.5 km above mean sea level, contributing to atmospheric instability over the region.
Meanwhile, light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at isolated places in the state during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall of 10.8 mm was reported from Hindgiri Met observatory.
