Jamshedpur, Feb 22: “The Tata are committed to transform Jamshedpur into a smart city and the company’s commitment to the growth of city has been demonstrated over time and it will continue in years to come,” said Tarun Daga, Managing Director, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited.
Addressing a virtual press meet on Tuesday, Daga said that steps were being taken to make Jamshedpur a smart city.
“Tata Steel UISL is committed to provide best civic amenities including electricity, water, better roads and develop Jamshedpur as a green city. All these services including water, electricity and sanitation will be connected to internet. To view the water level, system of switching lights off and on and garbage collection though QR code and developing water bodies though satellite imaging are already on the anvil.”

Cycling track
Cycling track is being built in Circuit House area and on Kadma-Sonari Link Road. Earlier a cycling trackhad been laid near Tata Pigment.
Road widening work is being done at a war pace and dividers on the roads are being given green cover. Road widening work is under progress at Golmuri, Tube Baridih and Agrico. The 1.3km road from Circuit House roundabout to Sai Mandir is also being widened with steel rod dividers while a footpath is being built along with service road. Circuit House road will soon get a cycling track,” added Daga.
He informed that stakeholders’ played a big role is whatever development work was being done and that they had been have been getting their constant support. The MDTata Steel UISL appealed to citizens for parking their vehicles in parking spaces in allotted spaces in order to avoid traffic bottlenecks.
City to get 3 EV charging stations
Electric Vehicle charging stations will come up at Jubilee Park parking space, near Tata Steel UISL office and near Sakchi bus stand while three more will be installed in the near future.
Straight Mile Road to be widened
Tata Steel UISL was also planning to develop an iconic road from Baridih-Agrico Roundabout to Sakchi, to Straight Mile Road to Dhatkidih and Kadma Market. The 9km long road built in the year 1943 will be widened while strengthening of Bhalubasa Bridge would also be an option.
Dilapidated roads injected with binding material
Tata Steel UISL MD Tarun Daga and Senior General Manager of Jharkhand Business, Captain Dhananjay Mishra stated that dilapidated roads would be refurbished by injecting binding material. This new technology of road repair had been implemented by the company as a pilot project on Marine Drive.
The MD informed that if the experiment was successful, it would then be used to repair other dilapidated roads of the city. He said, “Under this new technology, a pipe with holes and layers would be installed in the road. The material will be injected through this pipe, and that will reach different parts of the road through the pipe holes. This process will enable to repair cracks on roads without breaking the pathway.”
He added, “A synthetic net will be used under the top surface of the road so that cracks don’t appear on the roads. If this experiment is successful, not only would roads be further strengthened but the costs on construction of roads will also be minimized as would human intervention.
Bistupur, Kadma-Sonari Link Road being revamped
MD further said that Bistupur Outer Circle Road was being refurbished while the 2.9km stretch from Bistupur N Road to Marine Drive was being constructed of which, work on 2.6 km stretch had been completed and that the company hoped to complete the work on the remaining stretch soon.
Jungle Trail coming up in 21 acre land
Tarun Daga averred, “Citizens will soon find themselves enamored with the mystery of 3.5 km long Jungle Trail and will be soon gifted with a package of suspense laden experience that has all the punch to attract and excite.”
Located behind horse riding centre, the 3.5 KM long Jungle Trail with easy access that is setup for young and old to get out and explore nature. “The Trail will also have 2 m wide walking track with brick edging 19,000 trees planted with camping area developed in 2,500 Sq meters while the natural stream is being converted to wet-land,” he informed.
Smart City
The MD informed that cleanliness, water, power and urban infrastructure including roads, gardens, drains and street lights constituted a smart city. Digital interventions to improve the quality of life including infrastructure to enable e-vehicles, solar power, smart street lights, smart electric meters, IT based road condition monitoring, IOT based water tower level monitoring, QR code based collection of waste from household, satellite based monitoring of water bodies and other avenues were being focused on to develop the city as a Smart City.
