Jamshedpur: The Flying Squad of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Tatanagar Railway Station achieved a significant breakthrough under “Operation Yatri Suraksha” on Friday. The team apprehended a notorious thief identified as Mohammad Chand, a resident of Jugsalai, from the station premises.
The Incident and Arrest
According to RPF officials, the accused had stolen a passenger’s purse at Tatanagar Railway Station two days prior. The stolen purse contained ₹17,000 in cash along with the victim’s Aadhaar card. Following the report, the RPF Flying Squad intensified surveillance across the station complex.
Acting on intelligence regarding the suspect’s frequent presence and suspicious movements near the station, the RPF team spotted Mohammad Chand upon his return to the premises on Friday. The team quickly cordoned off the area and took him into custody on the spot.
Criminal Background
Investigation revealed that Mohammad Chand is a repeat offender with a documented criminal history. He has previously been booked in two separate cases at the Tatanagar Railway Police Station and Jugsalai Police Station for stealing passenger belongings. Despite having served jail time for these past offenses, the accused continued to engage in criminal activities.
Following his arrest, the RPF team handed the accused over to the Tatanagar Railway Police for further legal proceedings. Authorities are currently interrogating him to investigate his involvement in other recent thefts. In light of this incident, the Railway Protection Force has urged passengers to remain vigilant regarding their luggage and promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the RPF or Rail Police to ensure a safe journey.
