Jamshedpur: Tatanagar Railway Station has achieved the ISO 14001:2015 Certification for its Environmental Management System. This certification showcases the station’s commitment to ecological conservation, waste management, cleanliness, and green initiatives.
Rigorous Ground-Level Audit Precedes Certification
Before awarding the certification, a rigorous multi-stage audit evaluated the station’s environmental policies, operational procedures, documentation, and ground-level execution. Led by environmental management expert Sujit Kumar, the audit team scrutinized Tatanagar’s waste disposal systems, cleanliness protocols, plantation drives, and water conservation measures. The station successfully met all parameters.

The Green Pillars Behind Tatanagar’s Success
Tatanagar Railway Station’s transition into an eco-friendly hub is anchored by several long-term initiatives executed over the past few years:
- Massive Plantation Drives: More than 10,000 saplings have been planted across the railway premises and surrounding areas. The station administration ensured regular maintenance protocols, successfully boosting the local ecosystem and urban biodiversity.
- Scientific Waste Management: The station has deployed advanced mechanisms for the safe and scientific disposal of various types of waste. It strictly follows environmental mandates to process hazardous waste and effluents discharged from bio-toilets.
- Track and Platform Sanitation: Round-the-clock track maintenance, regular platform deep-cleaning schedules, and high-tech sanitation monitoring keep the station environment pristine and safe for daily commuters.
- Passenger Awareness & Anti-Plastic Campaigns: Beyond infrastructure, the railway administration frequently runs public awareness drives on plastic elimination, source segregation of dry and wet waste, and the maintenance of public hygiene.
“A Collective Success and Future Responsibility”
Railway officials stated that this historic achievement belongs to the collective, synchronized efforts of all departments and ground staff who worked tirelessly to implement these eco-standards.
“This certification is not just an achievement; it is a long-term responsibility. Tatanagar Railway Station aims to not only provide world-class passenger amenities but also maintain an eco-friendly, sustainable, and clean campus,” a senior official remarked.
