Jamshedpur, July 18: In view of the growing infection rate of COVID-19, the railways has made arrangements for nine spacious cabins in each coach with eight of them for coronavirus patients and one for medics and medical staff. The coaches are on standby and awaiting state government�s order to take corona positive patients to a distant and secluded place where their treatment can be carried out without chances of spreading infections. The coach windows have been sealed with fine nets to prevent mosquitoes and other insects from entering the cabins. The coaches are sleeper classes and the middle births have been removed. Each cabin has two beds with pillows and bedcovers, three dustbins, one medicine table, two bottle stands and one oxygen cylinder stand. Every isolation ward coach has been provided with bathroom fitted with a shower, tap, basin, bucket and mug. One western toilet with commode and two Indian style have been provided in each coach.
One rake with 26 such coaches is on standby at Tatanagar rail station. In total 58 such isolation coaches are ready for service in Chakradharpur Railway division. There are 26 coaches stationed in Chakradharpur while six of them are stationed in Rourkela. The coaches in Chakradharpur Division have the capacity to handle 464 coronavirus patients at a time. 58 sleeper coaches in the Chakradharpur Rail Division have been converted into COVID Wards at a cost of Rs 23.20 lakh.
