Tatanagar: One arrested for drugging and looting train passengers

Jamshedpur, Aug 3: In a breakthrough, Tatanagar Railway Protection Force (RPF) here arrested Manoj Mandal of Deoghar for allegedly drugging and robbing train passengers.

Mandal was arrested just when he was trying to rob one Vijay Kumar Yadav at Tatanagar railway station. Yadav was on his way home from Champua. Mandal had befriended him and was planning to offer him biscuits laced with drugs so as to render him unconscious in order to loot his cash and belongings later, said Sanjay Kumar Tiwary, officer in-charge of RPF Tatnagar.

“Manoj Mandal has been involved in numerous crimes in trains. He befriends train passengers and drugs them by offering them biscuits. When the passengers fall unconscious, he makes away with their ATM card, cash and belongings,” said Tiwary.

Mandal had looted Rs 25,000 from one Shankar Kumar in Tata-Chhapra train on 29th April last. On 26th July last, he had looted Rs 12,000 and ATM card from one Sandeep Thakur in the same train. Later, he had withdrawn Rs 53,000 by using the victim’s ATM card.

Police seized 65 tablets, biscuits, blade, two mobile phones and Rs 1500 in cash from the possession of the accused.
