Jamshedpur: The long-awaited Mango Flyover is nearing completion. Authorities have set a deadline of July 31, 2026, to finish the construction, promising a permanent solution to the chronic traffic congestion that has plagued the Mango-Sakchi route for years.
A Multi-Crore Solution to Traffic Woes
The 2.8-kilometer-long four-lane flyover is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹252 crore. Once operational, it is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Sakchi and Dimna, a stretch currently notorious for its gruelling traffic jams.
Commuters currently face severe bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours—morning school and office rushes, mid-day market hours, and evening returns—often spending hours stuck in stationary traffic.
Key Milestones Achieved
The project reached a major milestone recently with the completion of all 57 pillars. According to Deepak Sahay, Executive-cum-Superintending Engineer of the Road Construction Department, “the project is now in its final stages”.
The most challenging phase—installing girders on the pillars located in the middle of the river—has been completed. With the foundational and structural work largely finished, the focus has shifted to the final surfacing and connectivity aspects.
Impact on the City
The flyover is expected to transform the urban landscape of Jamshedpur by:
- Ensuring Seamless Connectivity:Direct access from Sakchi to Dimna Road without the need to navigate the congested Mango roundabout.
- Boosting Economic Activity:Faster transport of goods and reduced commute times for workers.
- Enhancing Safety:Reducing the frequency of minor accidents and vehicle wear-and-tear caused by stop-and-go traffic.
Officials are optimistic that by August, the residents of Mango and surrounding areas will finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief as the “bottleneck of Jamshedpur” becomes a thing of the past.
