Maintaining Jamshedpur is a shared responsibility: Tata Steel VP
Jamshedpur, Sept 22: Tata Steel Vice President of Corporate Services, D.B. Sundara Ramam, highlighted the strong and enduring bond between Tata Steel and the residents of Jamshedpur while addressing a felicitation ceremony organized by the Jamshedpur Citizens Forum (JCF) on Sunday evening. The event was held at the Srikrishna Sinha Sansthan, where residents gathered to welcome him and discuss the development of the city.
During his address, Sundara Ramam emphasized that Jamshedpur is the dream city of JN Tata, and maintaining the city is a shared responsibility of both Tata Steel and its citizens. “Efforts are constantly made to ensure that there are no shortcomings in Jamshedpur’s development and maintenance,” he said. Highlighting the company’s commitment, he stated that Tata Steel spends between 200 and 250 crore rupees annually on the city’s development, though the company does not consider this expenditure as a matter of significance. He added that the city consistently aims to be among the top in the country in terms of planning and development.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by several prominent leaders. JCF Chairman AK Srivastava welcomed Sundara Ramam with a shawl and garland. Other dignitaries present included General Secretary Harivallabh Singh RC, retired DSP Arvind Kumar, Forum Vice President Vikas Singh, and Commander Sanjeev Raman. Srivastava remarked that the new generation of JCF leadership would continue to advance the Forum’s objectives, which he has nurtured for over 35 years. On the occasion, Red Cross Secretary Vijay Singh, recently appointed President of the Red Cross Society by the Governor, was also honored.
Sharing his experiences, Sundara Ramam highlighted Tata Steel’s long-standing commitment to community development. He noted that corporate responsibility is not just a phrase for the company but an active effort to enhance the quality of life of communities. He mentioned that Tata Steel, now 118 years old, along with the Tata Group at 150 years, has been contributing to the city for more than a century, alongside the Tata Workers Union and many of its mines, which have also completed 100 years. He added that the company spends around 650 to 700 crore rupees annually, most of which benefits Jharkhand.
Sundara Ramam invited residents to share suggestions for the city’s development, assuring that Tata Steel would take all feasible steps and speak up when challenges arise.
