Jamshedpur, April 24: Tata Steel on Friday announced the launch of its much-awaited Summer Camp 2026, scheduled to be held from May 11 to May 31 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. The announcement was made during a press meet held at the JFC Media Room, where senior officials highlighted the company’s continued commitment to nurturing young sporting talent.
Addressing the media, D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, emphasised the role of sports in holistic development. “Sports play a crucial role in shaping character, instilling discipline, and fostering teamwork. Through initiatives like the Summer Camp, we aim to inspire young individuals to embrace these values and unlock their full potential,” he said.
Also present at the press meet were Mukul Choudhari, Chief Sports, Tata Steel and Capt. Manish Sinha, Head – Sports, Tata Steel, who shared insights into the scale and inclusivity of this year’s programme.
Building on the success of last year’s camp, which saw participation from 2,995 children in Jamshedpur, Tata Steel expects the number to exceed 3,500 this year. The programme will continue to promote inclusivity, with participation from around 40 children with special needs and nearly 60 children from Masti Ki Pathshala.
The camp will offer training in 19 sports and activity disciplines, including athletics, badminton, football, swimming, volleyball, yoga, Zumba, karate, boxing, chess, horse riding, roller skating, and basketball. In addition to its Jamshedpur centre, similar camps will also be organised across Tata Steel locations such as TSK, TSM, RM, TGS, and TSG, expanding its outreach.
A key highlight of this year’s camp is the introduction of Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports globally, open to participants of all age groups. The popular Roll Ball skating initiative for children aged 4 to 6 will also continue. For adults, specialised programmes in self-defence, along with structured weight loss and fitness sessions, have been added.
To ensure a holistic experience, the camp will include recreational activities for parents and guardians, making it a family-oriented initiative. All coaches and instructors will be trained in POSH compliance and ethical guidelines to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
An in-house nutritionist will conduct sessions on sports nutrition and hydration, while Leading You^(n)th (TLY), an internationally recognised skills training organisation, will host age-specific workshops. These will focus on creativity and teamwork for younger children, and leadership, resilience, and communication skills for teenagers.
Ramam also thanked the citizens of Jamshedpur for their continued support. “The passion for sports in the Steel City has always inspired us to aim higher and deliver better experiences year after year. We look forward to making this year’s camp even more engaging and impactful,” he added.
