Tata Steel officials face protests at JEMCO grounds

Jamshedpur, April 23: Tata Steel officials faced mass protests as they arrived to demarcate the JEMCO ground in the Telco police station area for construction of a boundary wall. However, their efforts were met with fierce opposition from local residents, who vehemently protested against the move.

The JEMCO grounds hold significant importance to the community, serving as a playground for children from various settlements including Manifeet, Mahanand Basti, Machhua Basti, Premnagar, Lakshminagar, Jhagdu Bagan, Mishra Bagan, and JEMCO Basti. Residents expressed concerns over the potential loss of a space essential for children’s recreation and morning walks.

Amidst the escalating uproar, women from the Sikh community took to performing kirtan, adding a spiritual dimension to the protest in the scorching heat. The impassioned demonstration led to the withdrawal of the Tata Steel team, as the commotion intensified.

Subsequently, leaders from the Sikh community arrived at the scene, further escalating the situation. The incident underscores the deep-seated concerns of local residents regarding the potential loss of communal spaces and the need for dialogue between stakeholders to address such contentious issues.
