Tata Steel Launches Excellence in Education Version 2 in Jamshedpur Schools

340 Jamshedpur Students Explore Tribal Heritage

Jamshedpur: Tata Steel launched the second version of its Excellence in Education Programme (TEEP) on April 23, 2026. The inaugural session, hosted at Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS), focused on the development of social and cultural skills—one of five key competencies identified by city school principals for the 2026-27 academic cycle.

Focus on Cultural Upskilling

The program specifically aims at the holistic upskilling of students. The launch event, which commenced at 10:00 AM, saw the participation of 340 students and teachers representing 17 schools from across Jamshedpur.

The initiative’s success stems from the strategic involvement of Mrs. Vidya Battiwala and Mrs. Kajal Patel from Tata Steel, who spearheaded the departmental coordination required to bring this skill-development vision to life.

Exploring the Roots of Jharkhand

Mr. Jiren Topno of the Tata Steel Foundation led the session, accompanied by Mr. Pratik, Mr. James Minz, and Mr. Boipoi. Through an engaging 75-minute presentation, Mr. Topno introduced the audience to the diverse tribes and languages of Jharkhand.

The session provided deep insights into:

  • Governance and Hierarchy: How tribal communities structure their internal leadership and social order.
  • Work Culture and Schooling: The traditional systems of learning and community labor.
  • Environmental Stewardship: A central theme of the session was the “common thread” shared by all tribes—the profound respect for nature.

Mr. Topno emphasized that tribal culture is rooted in protecting flora and fauna, teaching students the importance of thanking and preserving the natural resources provided to humanity free of cost.

A Strong Start for 2026-27

Attendees described Mr. Topno’s oratory as “mesmerizing,” noting that he kept the large student body captivated throughout the technical and cultural discourse. Educators expressed their gratitude to Tata Steel for launching this initiative, which provides critical local context and cultural sensitivity to the city’s youth.

This cultural session marks the first of five skill-based modules planned under TEEP Version 2 for the current academic year, setting a high standard for the programs to follow.
