Truck Driver Attacked, Injured in Burmamines Armed Robbery Attempt

Jamshedpur: A truck driver was left brutally injured following a late-night attack by armed miscreants near the Tube Company area under the jurisdiction of Burmamines Police Station early Tuesday morning. The incident, which unfolded around 3:30 AM, has sparked widespread anger and concerns over night safety among local transport operators.

The victim has been identified as Jai Prakash Rajak, a resident of Birgram in West Bengal. According to police sources, Rajak was standing near his parked truck when three unidentified men pulled up in a vehicle. Armed with a pistol and a chapar (a sharp, heavy meat cleaver-like weapon), the assailants cornered him and demanded his mobile phone and cash.

When Rajak resisted the robbery attempt, the criminals attacked him with the sharp-edged weapon, leaving him bleeding and severely injured. The victim somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the robbers and ran to safety, spotting a nearby police patrolling team.

The police officers acted swiftly, rescuing Rajak and rushing him to the Sadar Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

Transporters Protest at Police Station

The incident triggered intense resentment among the local commercial driving community. On Tuesday morning, a large number of truck drivers alongside members of the Driver’s Union gathered at the Burmamines Police Station to register their protest.

The union submitted a formal memorandum to the local police administration demanding the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. They also called for intensified night patrolling and tighter security measures along major transit routes to protect interstate transport drivers who routinely traverse the area during the night.

Meanwhile, the Burmamines police have registered an official case regarding the attempted armed robbery and assault. Authorities confirmed that an active investigation is underway and a manhunt has been launched to track down the three suspects.
