Jamshedpur: Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant is set to undergo a five-day closure, significantly impacting operations and employee earnings. The closure, scheduled from March 30 to April 3, will disrupt production activities, prompting concerns among workers and stakeholders.
The closure includes a block shutdown on March 30, followed by a scheduled Sunday holiday on March 31. Additionally, April 1 has been designated as a leave day, with compensatory work arrangements to be made later. Further block closures are slated for April 2 and 3, culminating in a total shutdown period of five days.
Employees affected by the closure will receive only half their usual salary for the days of closure, with management also committing to providing partial compensation. This financial setback poses challenges for workers, especially amidst existing economic uncertainties.
The decision to implement the block closures stems from reduced work orders and heightened production challenges, reflecting broader industry dynamics. Circulars detailing the closure directives, signed by Plant Head Ravindra Kulkarni, have been circulated to department heads, outlining the operational adjustments.
The extended closure period, spanning both the previous and current financial years, underscores the severity of the production constraints faced by Tata Motors. The ripple effects of the closure are expected to reverberate throughout Adityapur Industrial Town, potentially impacting business activities and economic stability.
