Tata Motors issues eviction notice for employee quarters due to safety concerns

Jamshedpur: In a recent development, Tata Motors management has issued a notice to its employees, urging them to vacate company quarters in the vicinity of Azad Market within the Telco Colony. The notice cites safety concerns stemming from the deteriorating condition of approximately 150 aged housing units, deeming them potentially unsafe due to the risk of plaster and concrete collapses.

This notice, which was unexpectedly issued by the town administration between the Diwali and Chhath Puja holidays, has sent ripples of panic among the affected employees. Particularly worrisome are those who have recently relocated from other areas and employees who had just freshly painted their quarters in preparation for the upcoming Chhath Puja celebrations.

Tata Motors’ management has formally declared these quarters unfit for habitation and has advised their evacuation, primarily due to security considerations. The company has identified these aging quarters for demolition, leading to the urgent call for employees to seek alternative accommodation options with the Municipal Administration Department within a seven-day timeframe.

Employees have been instructed to vacate these quarters within 30 days. The company explains that the decision to demolish these structures is a response to their deteriorating condition and the need to address security concerns in the vicinity. Furthermore, it has been noted that several quarters in the area remain unoccupied, creating an environment that has attracted unwanted anti-social elements.
As a part of the company’s ongoing operations, employees being relocated from these quarters are being provided with larger, more suitable housing options. Tata Motors asserts that this action is a standard procedure and not an unusual or unprecedented move.
