Jamshedpur: The 165th birth anniversary of Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour under the aegis of the Tagore Society at Rabindra Bhavan in Sakchi, the city’s prominent centre for art and culture. The three-day celebration commenced with a series of vibrant programmes dedicated to the legendary poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate.

The first day began early in the morning at 5:30 AM with a Prabhat Pheri (morning procession). The procession started from the Tagore Society premises and passed through major city landmarks including the Sakchi roundabout, Bengal Club intersection, and Jubilee Park intersection before returning to the Rabindra Bhavan complex. Students and teachers from the Tagore School of Arts and Tagore Academy participated enthusiastically in the procession, creating a devotional and cultural atmosphere through songs and performances dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore.

Paying tribute to the Kobiguru, Tagore Society President Dr. H.S. Pal said that great personalities like Rabindranath Tagore were born for the welfare and uplift of humanity. He remarked that Tagore’s literary and artistic works not only reflected creativity but also carried deep messages of kindness, compassion, and universal harmony. He further observed that nature found vivid expression in Tagore’s writings, especially through themes such as spring, rain, and human emotions, which continue to inspire generations.

As part of the celebrations, students of the Tagore School of Arts presented a melodious choral rendition of Rabindra Sangeet, paying tribute to the great poet. The evening session witnessed a colourful cultural extravaganza featuring dance dramas and musical performances by various branches of the Tagore School of Arts operated by the Tagore Society.

The Cable and Baridih branches presented the dance drama “Sokol Kajer Kaji,” while the Kadma branch staged “Shanti Koro Barishono.” The Parsudih branch performed “Tumay Amay Milon Holo,” and the Telco branch captivated the audience with “Ami Nari, Ami Mahiyashi.” Students from the main Rabindra Bhavan centre concluded the programme with a presentation titled “Bani Ek, Sur Chhanda Anek.”
