Saraikela: Thousands of people did jal satyagraha in Seraikela on Tuesday under the banner of Akhil Jharkhand Nigrant Adhikar Manch. Keeping in view the agitational programme, the administration also showed alertness and adequate security arrangements were made around Chandil dam.
After this, hundreds of displaced people did jal satyagraha in in Ichagarh Block, Patkum Swarnarekha river ghat, to press for their demand relating to rehabilitation. The matter pertains to the Subarnarekha river ghat at Ichagarh Block Patkum where the displaced are demanding their rights. The agitators planned jal satyagraha at the Chandil dam, but the police personnel deployed at the dam along with executive magistrates at various places stopped them from doing so. Subsequently, they started the jal satyagraha in the Subarnarekaha river itself.
The local administration had made adequate security arrangements to prevent the displaced people from going to the dam. Police personnel are deployed on the state highways leading to the dam. Magistrates have also been deployed at the boating site of the dam. A large number of women as well as male forces were deployed.
However, during this time Rakesh Ranjan Mahato, president of All Jharkhand Displaced Rights Forum, expressed his displeasure over the administration. He said that not allowing a peaceful agitation in a democratic way is a violation of constitutional rights. As part of the phased movement, there was a programme to do jal satyagraha at the Chandil dam but it was stopped by the police administration.
