Students participate in AIDS awareness program

Seraikela, Dec 1: On the occasion of World Aids Day awareness program was organized at Kasturba School in Seraikela. The students at the school were informed about the deadly disease which is on the rise all over the world and specially in India.

On the occasion DLSA Secretary and Senior Judge AK Singh informed about the measures to avoid such a disease and a person can survive long if right measures are taken. Singh said that the number of people living with HIV/AIDS in India is an alarming 2.47 million, according to recent UN and US AID – backed government estimates, with an HIV infection prevalence level of around 0.36 per cent of the country’s more than 1.1 billion population. Singh futher said that Children are also at risk with respect to the HIV/AIDS virus.

The focus should always be to provide medical care, case management, social services and other types of intervention to children and adolescents with chronic illnesses and developmental disabilities and to provide support and education to their families.

World AIDS Day was first conceived in August 1987 by James W. Bunn and Thomas Netter, two public information officers for the Global Program on AIDS at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
