Students from five states visit CSIR-NML Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Aug 17: A group of 112 students from different schools in Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal accompanied by 15 teachers visited the CSIR-NML in Jamshedpur on Thursday.

This program was organized under “6th Scientific Excursion 2023” under “Knowledge & Awareness Mapping Platform” (KAMP)- “National Assessment for Scientific Temperament and Aptitude” (NASTA) and conducted under the CSIR-Jigyasa Virtual lab integration program.

The main objective of the program was to enhance scientific temperament and to create awareness and knowledge of scientific aptitude among school students.

Dr Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Chief Scientist & Head, MTE Division, CSIR-NML in welcome address briefly talked about CSIR and elaborated on various research activities taken up by the laboratory.

Students also participated in the “Hands-on Experiment” activity organized under CSIR-NML Jigyasa Program. Mousumi and Deepak from CSIR-NML demonstrated the “Hands-on Experiment” on coin battery and mutual inductance.

Further, Suman Tewary, Senior Scientist, AMP Division delivered a lecture on “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning”. In his lecture, he talked about different types of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning and its application in daily life.

Dr Arpita Ghosh, Principal Scientist, AMP Division talked about “Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Steel Industry”. She also talked about applications and the importance of Artificial Intelligence in the Iron and Steel industry.

A day-long program also included Lab. visit at the Urban Ore Recycling Centre, AAC, and Creep Section.
