Jamshedpur, March 23: The transformation of Tatanagar railway station is set to take shape within the next two-and-a-half years, as South Eastern Railway (SER) pushes forward with its modernization agenda.
General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra on Monday announced that the station redevelopment work under the PM Gati Shakti initiative is progressing swiftly and a new, upgraded station building will be ready within the stipulated timeline.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the Multi-Disciplinary Divisional Training Institute (MDDTI) at Bagbera, developed by the Chakradharpur Railway Division. The newly launched institute is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities aimed at enhancing the technical and operational capabilities of railway personnel.

The training centre features smart classrooms, digital learning systems, and a functional broad gauge track model. It also includes operational models of railway bogies along with points and crossings, enabling hands-on training for employees. Separate model rooms have been developed for engineering, mechanical, signal & telecom, and accounts departments. A 100-seat computer lab with Computer-Based Test (CBT) facilities has also been set up, where employees will receive training in emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence.

Addressing the media, Mishra emphasized that Indian Railways is rapidly adopting modern technologies, making it essential for its workforce to be equally skilled and adaptable. He noted that such training institutes will be established across all divisions in line with the Railway Ministry’s vision to improve efficiency, productivity, and operational excellence.
Highlighting infrastructure expansion, he said that key projects, including the fourth rail line between Kharagpur and Howrah, and between Chandil and Gamharia, have received approval. Work on these projects is expected to commence soon. Additionally, yard remodelling at Tatanagar is likely to begin in May, which will significantly streamline train operations and improve punctuality for both passenger and freight services.
In a notable development, Indian Railways has also entered into a collaboration with XLRI, under which employees will be trained in management, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics by expert faculty. This marks the first such initiative by South Eastern Railway.
Mishra further pointed out that delays in train operations are primarily due to increasing pressure on existing tracks, as both passenger and freight trains operate on the same lines. The addition of new lines is expected to ease congestion and enhance overall efficiency.
Senior railway officials, including Chakradharpur DRM Tarun Huria, Senior DCM Aditya Chaudhary, and Principal Personnel Officer Dr. Mahua, were present at the inauguration ceremony
