Ranchi, Mar 19: The Jharkhand government has launched a health insurance scheme for state employees, effective from March 1. Employees and their dependents can now avail themselves of free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh in registered hospitals under this scheme. The initiative has already begun benefiting employees, with the first reported case being a policeman from Jamshedpur who received free treatment.
According to Jharkhand Arogya Society, 1.62 lakh employees have enrolled in the scheme so far and health insurance cards have been issued to 1.09 lakh employees. The list of participating hospitals includes 151 from Jharkhand and 200 from outside the state. Additionally, 50 hospitals have been blacklisted and employees have been advised not to seek treatment there.
The scheme will be expanded from May 1 to include pensioners, university teachers, board and corporation employees and All India Services officers. In cases of serious illness, the insurance coverage extends up to Rs 10 lakh and a free air ambulance service is also included. Employees can download their insurance cards online using their mobile and GPF numbers. Enrolment for the scheme will remain open until April 30.
