Police Launch Manhunt After Bomb Threats In Jharkhand Courts

Ranchi, March 26 (IANS) — A wave of threatening emails targeting Jharkhand’s key government offices and court complexes triggered statewide panic on Thursday. In response, authorities placed Ranchi, Dhanbad, and Sahibganj on high alert and heavily fortified public buildings.

Security Forces Sweep Key Installations

The threats, sent via email, warned of impending explosions at the Ranchi Collectorate and the Dhanbad and Sahibganj Civil Courts.

• In Ranchi: The bomb disposal squad conducted a multi-hour sweep of the Collectorate after the Deputy Commissioner received a threatening message.

• In Sahibganj: SP Amit Kumar Singh led teams in evacuating the Rajmahal and Sahibganj court complexes while dog squads searched the premises.

• In Dhanbad: The threat disrupted court proceedings, marking the second such scare for the district’s civil court within two weeks.

Investigation Points to Inter-State Link

Ranchi police’s preliminary technical investigation suggests the emails originated from Tamil Nadu. Officials have identified a suspect, Uday Reddy, who they believe targeted judicial and administrative institutions due to grievances over a legal dispute.

A specialized team from the Jharkhand Police will travel to Tamil Nadu shortly to apprehend the suspect and determine if he acted alone or as part of a larger network.

High Alert and Previous Threats

This incident follows a string of recent scares, including a March 10 threat involving “cyanide bombs” at the Ranchi Civil Court and a February 28 message mentioning “RDX.” Authorities have now tightened security at all sensitive installations, deploying additional forces and installing metal detectors as a precaution.
