Jamshedpur, Sept 8: Srinath University and Srinath College of education jointly observed World Literacy Day by organizing a rural awareness campaign in Udaipur and Bardih villages in Saraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday. Assistant Professors and B Ed students comprised this team that endeavoured to propagate literacy in rural environs.

B Ed trainees taught the elderly villagers while acquainting them with alphabets and words. The aim of this endeavor was an effort to fight illiteracy still prevalent in the country.

Men and women of the village assembled in Radha Krishna Mandir in the village where they were introduced to basic literacy including Hindi alphabets. The main objective of this program was to enable them to read and write matter that was directly related to their daily life.

The villagers were assured that such programs would be organized from time to time by the College. Village Head, Parvati Sardar was present throughout the literacy drive.

Teaching and learning material were distributed at the New Primary School in Bardih on behalf of Srinath University. The school’s Headmaster and teachers were present on the occasion.

Both these villages, Udaipur and Bardih have been adopted by Srinath University and Srinath College of Education.

National Service Scheme (NSS) Program Coordinator Laxmi Mahato, Principal Dr Balabhadra Jena and assistant professors participated in the literacy awareness programme.
