Jamshedpur, February 6: The Abhaya Banerjee Foundation will organise its 12th Annual Sports Competition for children with disabilities on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 8:30 am at Sumant Mulgaonkar Stadium in Telco.
Sharing details, Dr. Jahar Banerjee, President of the Foundation, said the event aims to encourage confidence, fitness and sportsmanship among children with special needs. This year, 32 track and field events will be held for differently-abled children.
Around 120 students from 10 special schools and institutions across the city will participate. These include Asha Kiran School Telco, PATH, Jeevika, Gyanodaya Deaf and Dumb School, School of Hope, Siddheshwar Vidyalaya, Divya Jyoti Institute for the Blind Jamshedpur, and other organisations working with children with disabilities. Some participants from nearby districts are also expected to take part.
The competition has been divided into four disability categories, with separate age groups above and below 15 years for both boys and girls. Each group will have different sports events to ensure fair participation.
Ujjal Chakraborty, Executive In-charge of Tata Steel Tinplate Unit, will inaugurate the event as the chief guest, while social worker and businessman Suresh Sonthalia will attend as a special guest.
After the competitions, winners will receive medals, gifts and certificates. All participants will also be specially honoured by the Foundation. Twelve technical officials, led by Shyam Kumar Sharma and Subol Chatterjee, will manage the events to ensure smooth conduct.
