Third Road Accident Death in 48 Hours Raises Alarms
Jamshedpur: Even before the shock of the Mango Bus Stand accident could fade, another tragic road mishap has shaken Jamshedpur. A 40-year-old man, Rajkumar Nag, was killed after being hit by a speeding vehicle near Chhappan Bhog in the Bistupur police station area late Saturday night. This marks the third road accident death in the city within the last 48 hours, raising serious concerns over traffic management and night policing.
Hit-and-Run Near Chhappan Bhog
According to police, Rajkumar Nag, a resident of Bistupur K-Road, was returning home on foot after completing his duty late Saturday night. Near Chhappan Bhog, a speeding SUV, reportedly a Thar, rammed into him from behind. The impact was so severe that he was thrown onto the road, leaving him critically injured. Taking advantage of the darkness, the driver fled the spot immediately after the incident.
Police rushed Nag to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday.
Family in Distress
The death of Rajkumar Nag has devastated his family. He was the sole breadwinner, supporting his elderly mother and a minor son. With his sudden demise, the family is now facing a severe financial crisis. Grief-stricken relatives said their lives have been turned upside down overnight.
Anger Erupts at Hospital
On Sunday, emotions ran high at the TMH premises as family members accused the police of negligence and alleged attempts to shield an influential accused. They claimed that although the accident occurred at night, the family was informed only in the morning. The relatives demanded immediate arrest of the absconding driver and assurance of compensation. Due to the unrest, additional police force had to be deployed at the hospital.
City Roads Turning Into Racing Tracks at Night
Residents allege that after 10 pm, major roads in Bistupur, Sakchi and Mango turn into racing tracks. High-speed driving and dangerous stunts by reckless motorists have become a common sight on the city’s wide roads, posing a constant threat to pedestrians.
While traffic police focus on helmet and seatbelt checks during the day, locals say there is little to no enforcement against speeding and rash driving at night. This lack of night-time vigilance has led to a sharp rise in hit-and-run cases across the city.
Police Scan CCTV Footage
Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the speeding vehicle and its driver. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the accused at the earliest and assured that strict action will be taken once the culprit is identified.
The series of fatal accidents has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter night patrols, speed monitoring, and accountability to prevent further loss of innocent lives on Jamshedpur’s roads.
