Jamshedpur : East Singhbhum district administration has come out with special traffic plans in view of Durga puja immersion and Muharram procession falling on consecutive days in city.
Apart from barricading of roads passing through communally sensitive areas at Sakchi, Bhalubasa, Dhatkidih, Mango and Jugsalai the no-entry of heavy vehicles would be barred for whole day on both October 23 (immersion procession) and October 24 (muharram procession).
Not only the Durga puja pandals across the length and breath of the urban periphery witness heavy turnout of the enthusiasts even, the main roads literally have turned into human sea with people from every walk of life thronging to the nook and corner of the streets leading to the famous and popular puja pandals.
Directives have been issued for setting up watch towers at crowd-puller puja pandals (nearly 40) apart from the central watch tower at Sakchi roundabout.
Disappointingly, the otherwise law abiding denizens of the city that boasts of being one of the few cities of the country to have clean environment and well maintained streets confronts the wrath of poor traffic management during the six busy days of the pujas and indeed, the very own people of the century old city are to be responsible for the traffic chaos.
Nevertheless, in an attempt to send loud and clear message to the errant drivers particularly, those riding in drunken state of mind the district administration has decided to slap fine not less than Rs. 2000 on those found driving in an inebriated condition. Besides, collecting spot fine from those found violating traffic rules on street.
“There’s no denying the fact that controlling vehicular traffic is one of the most resourceful and cumbersome job during the pujas but again with an aim to streamline the traffic movement we work out different ways before time and this time too, we will come out with good alternatives,” informed traffic official.
The Jugsalai-Pursudih main road is the worst victim of the puja rush as it has become literally difficult to negotiate the street during the evening-night these days. Passengers heading for Tatanagar railway station are fighting it out to make a way to the railway station and in the course of it they sometime miss the train.
