CM Hemant Soren Inaugurates Three-Day International Event at Birsa Munda Stadium
Ranchi, Oct 24: The 4th SAAF Senior Athletics Championships 2025 began with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium in Ranchi on Friday.
The three-day international event, being held from October 24 to 26, was inaugurated by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the presence of thousands of spectators, athletes, and schoolchildren.
Athletes from six South Asian countries—India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka—are participating in the championship. A total of 36 medal events will take place over three days, featuring both men’s and women’s competitions. Nine medal events were held on the opening day, with several exciting finals setting the tone for the tournament.
The ceremony began with vibrant cultural performances that highlighted Jharkhand’s rich folk traditions. Local artists showcased traditional dances, drum beats, and songs, filling the stadium with energy and color.
The performances reflected the cultural spirit and diversity of Jharkhand, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Welcoming the athletes and guests, Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed pride that Jharkhand is hosting such a prestigious international event.
“This championship is not just about sports; it represents friendship and unity among the nations of South Asia. I warmly welcome all the athletes to Jharkhand,” he said.
Soren added that the state government is committed to promoting sports and nurturing young talent. “Jharkhand is on its way to becoming the sports hub of India. Events like this inspire our youth and give them the confidence to excel,” he said.
The event was attended by State Sports Minister, Sports Secretary, government officials, ministers, and MLAs, marking a proud moment for Jharkhand on the international sporting stage.
