Jamshedpur: Quick intervention by Mango Municipal Corporation Mayor Sudha Gupta defused a tense standoff in Gunamoy Colony and Punjabi Basti today. Local residents had launched a protest after construction work on the Mango flyover damaged a vital community water boring, cutting off their supply.
Swift Response to Public Resentment
As anger grew among the affected families, Mayor Sudha Gupta and former minister Banna Gupta arrived at the site to engage directly with the protesters. The Mayor listened to the residents’ grievances before issuing immediate orders to municipal and Road Construction Department officials.
“Development is for the people’s progress, but it is unacceptable if citizens face such hardships because of it,” Mayor Gupta stated, demanding more vigilance from contractors.
Key Solutions Agreed Upon
To prevent future disruptions and resolve the current crisis, the Mayor and officials finalized the following action plan:
-
Immediate Repair: The damaged boring will be fixed or replaced without delay.
-
Infrastructure Upgrades: Existing water pipes will be replaced with thicker, high-durability versions.
-
Drainage Overhaul: The drainage system will be covered, and road levels will be balanced to prevent waterlogging.
-
Safety First: Officials must ensure the 11,000-volt electrical supply line remains untouched during construction.
-
Better Connectivity: The crossroad linking Gunamoy Colony and Punjabi Line will be properly integrated with the main road.
Residents ended their agitation following these assurances, praising the Mayor’s sensitivity and prompt action.
